The Last Days of Ptolemy GreyThe Last Days of Ptolemy Grey by Walter Mosley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"PHENOMENAL"! This is my first Walter Mosley book. Wow, I am left speechless with teared filled eyes because I too love Ptolemy. I can say I love him just as much as Robin, if not more. It's been a long time since I've been able to connect with multiple characters in a story. I felt, while listening, like I knew these people personally and I was an invisible person with them on the bus, visiting Neicy, or visiting the Jewish Lawyer. Also, that I was there drinking tea with the antiques dealer and sitting on the couch with Mr. Grey as he gave Al his "gold coin". This was for me, story telling at it's best. I was completely engrossed and engaged in the story. I didn't want it to end. I am reflective of our duty to assist and love our Nations Elders and how a little love and attention goes a long way.

I listened to the audio version of this "INCREDIBLE" work. I don't know if my opinion of the book would be any different if I read it and not listened however, I do know with certainty that listening to Ptolemy in an Elder's voice made the story come alive. It was exceptional. That voice gave remembrance to all the Elder men in my life that I love. I felt and not just heard the greed of the family members who believed they deserved what they didn't. I felt the fear of Ptolemy when he was confused and couldn't speak of what he wanted to do or say. I knew in my own heart, as Mr. Grey knew in his, that Robin meant him no harm and that she loved him. I just can't say enough. My wish is that everyone could read this endearing story. If there is only one book that you pick up this year to read know with "The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey" you will get a great read, a good learning, and a few tears.

Diary of a Street DivaDiary of a Street Diva by Ashley Antoinette Snell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

"Diary of a Street Diva" is a well written story. I actually enjoyed the entire storyline. All the hype that surrounds these authors is definitely warranted. I agree with all the others who love them regarding their talent. I appreciate that the story wasn't gimmicky or slick. This is a book I will re-read and keep in my personal library.

The Ultimate No NoThe Ultimate No No by Tamika Newhouse
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This story was an ongoing roundabout of infidelity, deception, lies and jealousy. The three main characters Troy, Dahlia and Nitrah were a blast to read about. There were so many different stories within stories your mind never stops being jolted from one shock to another. "The Ultimate No NO" is no slouch of a story. Just when you are hoping for happily ever after, you wont get it. I had a whopping bit of fun with this one. Pick it up, you wont be disappointed!

JealousyJealousy by Marsha Jenkins-Sanders
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Jealousy started out really good then it became confusing and dragged. The grammar was confusing sometimes. The language would be used as if the author was confused about in what place she was in the story. One example was the soon to be bride being referred to as wife, often in the book, when she wasn't married yet. That was confusing because I thought maybe I'd missed something. The crazy cousin Ro's actions dragged on a little to much to where I just didn't care anymore about her. If the book was a bit cleaner (grammar), shorter and tighter ( more concise) it would've held my attention better. However, the plot is awesome and if it were to be edited better...wow what an awesome read in the making.

A Rich Man's BabyA Rich Man's Baby by Daaimah Poole
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

First I have to say the book overall was good. It started good, lulled in the last 3/4, and then fizzled out at the end. I had to stare at my Ipod in disbelief of the horrendous ending. It left me asking myself, "Did I just invest over 7 1/2 hours for this"? The characters were funny albeit "ridiculous". Tanisha and Adrienne's antics were well beyond stupid and juvenile. Listening to the audio I kept asking myself, now which one is in their 20's and which one is in their 30's? Both women were just above teen-like. The story did hold my interest. It had everything, a psychotic ex, gold digging women, trashy sluts, groupies, NBA and NFL players and more. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting a roller coaster of fun.

The Ugly Girlfriend (The Lonely Heart Series)The Ugly Girlfriend by Latrivia Nelson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Very pleasantly surprised with this one. It was great short story that I read in one sitting. The characters were believable and likable. I liked how Mrs. Nelson showed the emotion and turmoil of a man in distress and I felt Mitchells pain and anguish. The relationship between Latoya and her friend Angela was very realistic and I'm happy Mrs. Nelson showed this in her novel. People will treat you the way you want to be treated or the way you treat yourself. Latrivia stories are about interracial relationships. This one is about a man from Dublin, I believe, Mitch O'keefe who has a 9 yr old son by an African American women who he has just recently divorced. A very good read.

The Luxe (Luxe, #1)The Luxe by Anna Godbersen
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I read this book in two days and am pleasantly surprised by how much I really enjoyed it. It completely reminded me of the CW show Gossip Girl. Penelope couldn't been a better Blair Waldorf and Liz a better Serena( personality only). The writing was great and I enjoyed the newspaper clips and etc at the beginning of each chapter. It added something extra. I like period stories and books of this nature so, for me this was a great read. I didn't find any lulls in the book were it just dragged. I can't wait to read the next book.

Damaged GoodsDamaged Goods by Nikki Urban
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Wow! What a read. This book grips you from the very first page. Ms. Urban told a gripping, sad, complex, and mind boggling story. It was original in that it wasn't but had great unexpected twist and turns. This is a story of revenge from "THE MASSES". Yes, this revenge plot is from one but includes many. It is a truly eye opening story that some people "NEVER" change. Nikki shows in great detail that you truly do reap what you sow and that sometimes only revenge can set you free. Don't pass this one. You will be sorry. It is a "MUST READ"!

Luck of the Draw (Delphine Publications Presents)Luck of the Draw by Anna Black
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is my second read by Anna Black. She didn't disappoint with "Luck of the Draw". The book is about Kennedy a spoiled, trusting, sweet woman who loves her best friend like a "sister". However, her friend, Cherae thinks she's a rich, spoiled, fat bitch who's had everything handed to her, an easy life. Ironically, this same sister-friend lives this "good-life" as well because she lives and mooches off Kennedy (always begging for money) as well as Kennedy's family. Kennedy finally meets a "good" man that doesn't want the modelesque Cherae and Cherae looses her mind literally. Well, we all know two things well, misery loves company and what happens when jealousy rears its ugly head. I felt Kennedy pain, anguish and plain old stupidity so much throughout the book that I was getting tired from all the rollercoaster of emotions. That's just how great Annas writing is in that she has the ability to show and not just tell.
Anna definitely has talent. This story was smooth reading. This wasn't just the same ole drama, drama and more drama book that in the shock tactic of the story you aren't concerned with the actual writing, flow and language in the book. There are only a few writers that, I feel, have truly learned the craft of "WRITING" and I believe Anna has learned the skill/craft or hers is just a God given gift. Well, done Anna and you are now classified as one of my favorite writers.

Be Careful What You Pray ForBe Careful What You Pray For by Kimberla Lawson Roby
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I listened to the audio of this book from Audible.com. The reader Caroline Clay was exceptional. All of her voices were very believable and not strained or ridiculous. That being said, my attention was held from the first. The characters; J.T. Valentine, Carmen and Alicia Black were all too much for words. All three of these characters were over the top in all their shenanigans. Alicia because of her ridiculous need for material things, Carmen for her obsessive love for J.T and J.T. for his lying, cheating, low down womanizing ways. This book was like looking and listening in on a psychotic train wreck of human emotions and actions that you weren't suppose to see or hear. I loved every minute of it!

Expensive TasteExpensive Taste by Tiphani Montgomery
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was fantastic. It totally took me by surprise. The language on the first page left me wondering but after that I was hooked. The story just kept getting better and better. When the suspense of wanting to know what was next seemed in sight something else would arise. Tiphani definitely knows how to hook you. The story was smooth, meaning I didn't find the lull that usually appears in the middle towards the end of most books. The time just passed away for me when reading " Expensive Taste". Everything that Mirror initially ran away from came back to haunt her in a horrible way. Most often people think they can do dirt and never have to pay the reaper well, say hello!

Keepin' It TightKeepin' It Tight by Shani, Greene Dowdell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was really good. It was engrossing from the first page, slow in the middle, and picked up with steam until the end. I liked the way the author folded in the characters layer by layer and not all at once. There were, by the end, more than 6, but Shani was able to clearly separate each one of them "Keepin' it Tight". This story has many different twist and elements to it which kept it interesting. It was an awesome read. I must admit, Grandma Jana was my favorite. She's hilarious and her presence in every scene was memorable. I think she needs her own story.

Now You Wanna Come BackNow You Wanna Come Back by Anna Black
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed this book. It was a page turner and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. The book is about a husband who verbally abusive about her weight even when she is pregnant carrying their first child. He's unwilling to take her anywhere because he's disgusted by her weight gain. It is a great story. It has many twist and turns and you will root for the wife all the way up to the last page. The self-esteem is easy to damage but twice as hard to heal.....

The Millionaire MistressThe Millionaire Mistress by Tiphani Montgomery
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was a flawless read. I read it in one sitting and could barely get up for necessary breaks, if you know what I mean. The characters were all off the chain and the story just unfolded smoothly without many hiccups. I immediately purchased the second installment of the series which I will try to finish tonight. I would recommended this one to all. I love well put together stories. I must admit that at 75% in the book, the characters were starting to read and become too familiar of others in previous books I'd read but Tiphani tricked me well!

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It was a good book with lot's of twist and turns. The ending was as expected. However, having figured that out about 25% into the book it was still a great read and kept my attention. The characters were all interesting and most played a huge part in making the story enjoyable.

Run to buy this one!

Drama With a Capital DDrama With a Capital D by Denise Coleman

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was "FANTASTIC". I couldn't put it down. I finished it in a matter of hours. I find that because I read a lot of books they all start to mesh together. The characters in many of the books have different names but basically share the same plot. However, not with "Drama With a Capitol D". The storyline was fresh and I never knew what was coming. The main characters Lonnie, John, Cherie, and Malik were all multidimensional. Don't walk to buy this one..run! You wont be disappointed.
